3 SECRET PILLARS to Developing a Powerful and Brilliant Life

When we chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo (Daimoku), it enables us to awaken our innate Buddhahood. But in order to develop a powerful & brilliant life that would allow us to achieve victory over ourselves, our circumstances and overcome our day-to-day life challenges, we must be aware of these 3 secret pillars of Nichiren Buddhism:

1. FAITH:
It is the most fundamental pillar for attaining Buddhahood in this lifetime, as we believe in the limitless power of The Gohonzon and the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin. Faith is the key to unlocking our own potential and believing in the limitless potential of all people to establish lives of supreme happiness.

As we go on strengthening our Faith, we begin to see results in the form of transforming our karmas, gaining wisdom and calling forth the life state of Buddhahood from within ourselves.

Guidance from Daisaku Ikeda says, “Faith is the greatest of all treasures. We can show actual proof of victory in life by striving with courageous faith”.

Second Soka Gakkai President, Mr Toda encouraged members through these words, “Nichiren Daishonin overcame every obstacle. This is actual proof of the power of Faith. Faith that is not defeated by any adversity is what enables us to build a citadel of eternal happiness”.

2. PRACTICE:
This is the second pillar to achieving a powerful & brilliant life. It is divided into two aspects :
i) Practice for oneself
To chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo ourselves and complete it with Daily Gongyo (morning & evening prayers)

ii) Practice for others
To spread the law by “planting the seed” of Nichiren Buddhism in others, through introducing them to it via our own experience & success story, or other’s testimonials as well as teaching people the way to chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and helping them create fulfilling lives as they deepen their conviction in The Mystic Law & The Gohonzon.

As we “practice for ourselves”, when we attain victory and happiness, we get inspired & encouraged to share this jewel of Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo in our lives with others, to help them also achieve immense joy & lives of supreme happiness. That is when we make efforts to spread the Law and it becomes our “practice for others”. So both these aspects of Practice are interrelated.

When we practise with faith and make continuous efforts to polish our lives, we want to know even more about this life-changing philosophy of The Mystic Law. That’s when we are lead to the third pillar of developing a powerful & brilliant life – Study.

3. STUDY:
To read and understand the philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism by referring to books on the same; articles, lectures, audio-video speeches by the Second & Third SGI Presidents, Mr. Josei Toda & Mr. Daisaku Ikeda, and being able to apply it all in our daily lives – this is what comprises the third pillar – STUDY.

It fills us with the confidence and confirmation of the validity of this practice, as a deep understanding of the concepts of this life-changing philosophy prevent us from having any doubts about the claims and promises of victory made by the founder, Nichiren Daishonin, and the three presidents of the SGI, for all those who diligently apply all the 3 pillars of this Law into their lives.

Study of The Mystic Law also helps us to develop the correct attitude to face life’s challenges, overcome them courageously and eventually becoming happy. When we go out to spread the Law, study helps us to give correct and convincing explanations about this philosophy. So study gives us a solid strong foundation to be able to spread this Buddhism and contribute to worldwide Kosenrufu, helping not only others bring happiness into their lives but also ourselves to have more clarity and conviction for The Mystic Law.

Out of all these 3 secret pillars, Faith is the most fundamental for attaining Buddhahood as Faith leads to Practice, Practice leads to Study, and Study deepens Faith. So all the 3 pillars not only compliment each other but also reinforce each other, helping people develop lives which are powerful, brilliant and supremely happy.
